Polymer clay jewellery care guide

Polymer clay is a PVC based non toxic plastic which is soft when creating but hardens when it is baked in the oven.

Polymer clay is durable, but as the jewellery I make is unique and delicate, please take care with your earrings. I do recommend keeping them away from water, lotions, hair spray, perfumes etc

If your earrings have a painted pattern/print, do
not use any water to clean them.
For other styles, if you need to clean them, a wet wipe or damp cotton wool should lift most make up marks
Don't sleep in your earrings - this can bend them or cause them to break where the findings are
attached.
Studs and Metals
Please take extra care with push-back studs, as
these are fixed directly on to the clay. I do recommend pushing the post forwards through the rubber back, rather than pulling from the front, this will put less stress on the bond between metal and clay.
If your earrings are beginning to tarnish, you can
use a jewellery polishing cloth (available cheaply
online) and buff the metal.
Storage
It is recommended that you store your earrings in a jewellery box, out of direct sunlight. This will
ensure the metal doesn't tarnish as quickly, and
the colours are retained for longer.
Rubber Earring Backs
I use rubber earring backs for all stud or hook
earrings. These are more comfortable to wear than metal, and often stay in place better. I recommend you use the backs even for hook earrings, to prevent them escaping! lf you do prefer metal butterfly backs, you can use any from your existing earrings - the posts I use are standard size and they should fit perfectly.
Stainless Steel
Some of my findings are 304 stainless steel
which, most people are fine to wear. This
metal doesn't tarnish
